What Is Microneedling?

Microneedling is a minimally invasive procedure using thin needles. The procedure can help reduce the appearance of skin concerns such as acne scars, stretch marks or wrinkles. This procedure uses thin needles to make tiny holes in the top layer of your skin. The damage helps stimulate your skin’s healing process, so it produces more collagen and elastin. These proteins keep your skin firm and smooth. Multiple treatments may be necessary for optimal results.

What Is The Treatment Like?

Depending on the area of your face or body being treated and the type of device used (i.e. needle length), the procedure is well-tolerated and in some cases virtually painless, feeling only a mild prickling sensation. Your practitioner will apply a topical anesthetic to your skin prior to treatment to reduce any pain and discomfort. Your skin will be pink or red in appearance, much like a sunburn, for a couple of hours following treatment. Minor bleeding and bruising is possible depending on the length of the needle used and the number of times it is pressed across the treatment area. Your skin may feel warm, tight, and itchy for a short while. This should subside in 12-48 hours.

What Are The Benefits Microneedling?

  • Improves skin texture

  • Reduces pore size

  • Lessens fine lines and wrinkles

  • Minimize hyperpigmentation

  • Reduces acne scars

Is There Any Downtime?

Microneedling does not require active downtime. However, your skin will actively be in a healing period in which there will be certain things to be cautious of. Microneedling immediately after treatment, can cause redness, slight swelling, and skin sensitivity, especially in the first 24 to 48 hours after treatment. It is important to not apply anything topical t your skin unless instructed by your professional. Your skin will be continuously healing from the procedure so it is crucial to keep it as unexposed as possible from excessive sun and heat.

What Results Can I Expect?

Many people can see initial results immediately after just one treatment. This will depend on a variety of factors. However, the results will not be visible until four to six weeks after treatment. It takes roughly this long for your body to create new, strong, and healthy collagen. Microneedling treatments are typically done once every four to six weeks, with ideally four to six procedures in total. Depending on your skin, and goals. the number of treatments may vary. This will be discussed in your initial consultation.
